The Benefits of Coconut Oil

 Coconut Oil

First of all, I’ll let you know that I am a coconut oil fanatic & in fact after you finish reading this post, you will be one too! Coconut Oil has so many health & beauty benefits that more people should become aware of. I educate almost every client in my chair about it and I recommend only getting raw, organic , virgin coconut oil. (You want the real stuff!)

The Coconut Oil Benefits

1. Nourishes the Skin

It’s antioxidant properties are great for wrinkles & irritations. It is the best moisturizer you could use because it is purely natural and everything you put on your skin is absorbed by the bloodstream. Too bad I haven’t found an organic makeup line that actually performs to my high expectations.

2. Moisturizes the Hair

The fatty acids in the oil help by replenishing moisture to dry hair. Use it as mask once or twice a week. If you are using it as a hair serum, a drop of it goes a long way. (Don’t put too much otherwise you’ll look greasy & have to wash your hair all over again.)

3. Helps with Cellulite

I’m there with you girls so slather this bad boy on! ( I like to apply right after I get out the shower & it penetrates my skin better)

4. Helps with Weight Loss

Coconut Oil helps raise the body’s temperature & boost your metabolism and this in turn contributes to weight loss. It also suppresses your appetite for a good 3 hours. Take one tablespoon in the morning and one in the evening.

5. Supports Your Immune System

The lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid in coconut oil have antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties that are great for your immune system.

6. Prevents Heart Disease & High Blood Pressure

Coconut oil is high in natural saturated fats. Saturated fats in plants not only increase the healthy cholesterol (known as HDL) in your body, but helps to convert the LDL “bad” cholesterol into good cholesterols. By Increasing the HDL’s in the body, it helps promote heart health, and lower the risk of heart disease. (My mother has high blood pressure & started taking coconut oil and now has it stabilized to a point where she no longer needs medication. Of course please consult your doctor first)

7. Prevents Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis can be cause by free radicals & oxidative stress. The high levels of antioxidants in the coconut oil help fight radicals & increases calcium absorption in the gut.

8. Slow the Aging Process

Coconut Oil reduces stress on the liver, lowers oxidative stress, and improves antioxidant levels which helps slow the aging process a bit.

9. Helps with Alzheimer’s

Digestion of medium-chain triglycerides (fatty acids) creates ketones that supply energy to the brain without the need of insulin. Patients of Alzheimer’s lose the ability to create insulin, therefore the fatty acids in Coconut Oil creates an alternate energy source to help repair brain function. ( My grandmother suffers from Alzheimer’s but we have been able to keep her stable with coconut oil.)

10. Aids with Hormone Balance

The plant saturated fat & lauric acid help naturally balance your hormones.

11. Helps with UTIs

Medium-chain triglycerides (fatty acids) work as a natural antibiotic by disrupting the lipid coating on bacteria. By applying a small amount to yourself and then applying an ice pack you can get a little cool relief. ( I have personally suffered from chronic UTIs & this has helped tremendously along with taking D-Mannose.)

Uses of Coconut Oil

I literally use Coconut Oil for everything and I mean that. You will find Coconut Oil in my kitchen, my bathroom, and my bedroom 😉
