Building Portfolios

Ello creatures <3

For my aspiring artists out there :

I finally made the investment to create my real portfolio which I’ll be using to get into an Artist Agency!

I’ve done many test shoots in the past from ModelMayhem & have gotten back amateur quality pictures that you could never use to go to an agency.

In case you don’t know what ModelMayhem is , it’s a website where artists: hairstylists, makeup artists, wardrobe stylists, retouchers, photographers, models…all come together to network.

It is a wonderful site to use when you are first starting out in the industry.

I want to share with you things I learned yesterday so that I can save you time, money, & grief lol

-Don’t worry about not being able to completely do every look you want in your portfolio, it’s impossible to do in just one photoshoot

-Keep organized & Make sure you have a mood board! Don’t just be general, look at the models you are using & find specific looks you plan on doing each one to save time

-Your portfolio should tell a story, do not jump from a clean beauty look to a dark smokey eyes & bold lips right away, you should gradually get there. So instead of doing just 2 looks on a model, do 3 so that you can tell a story

-Only use agency signed models! You can’t just pick off any pretty girl off the street, you need real professionals who know how to pose

-You should be heavy handed with your makeup application because the camera takes 50% of the makeup away

I wish I knew some of these things before I started!

So I’ll give you guys a sneak peak at one of the looks…behind the scenes
