Natural Ways To Help With Anxiety

Are you feeling overwhelmed with anxiety?

Have you been struggling to overcome those anxious feelings?

Maybe you’ve tried anxiety medication but were troubled by the side effects or prefer not to use drugs. I’ve had my own personal struggles with overcoming anxiety along with depression my whole life and after psychiatric drugs failed me I knew I had to find other ways to overcome and heal. Here I share some of things I’ve learned to self-heal.

Unlike other mental health professionals and alternative healers, I always believed in giving people the knowledge to heal themselves! No one else can heal you but you, we are simply here to guide you through the healing process. I urge you to keep an open mind and allow yourself to try things you haven’t before. All the people I’ve worked with have had breakthroughs and the social proof is there.

Tools

1. Emotional Freedom Tapping

Cristine…what in the world is EFT? Ooook lets break it down.

This is a tool based on Energy Psychology, like reiki and acupuncture we are focusing on certain meridian points on the body to help release negative emotions. This is a simple method for shifting brain patterns that lead to undesired thoughts, actions, and emotions such as fear, anger, anxiety, jealousy, shame, and depression. By tapping on energy points on the surface of your skin while focusing the mind on the specific issue it sends signals to the brain which lower our levels of cortisol, the stress hormone. Studies have shown that when you tap, stress goes down and happiness goes up. And when your emotions change, the molecules inside your body change too. Studies are showing:

-Cortisol down 37% after a week of tapping (Groesbeck et al., 2019)

-WEIGHT GOES DOWN 11 to 22 lbs per year (Stapleton et al., 2014; Church et al., 2018)

-Inflammation (which is linked to depression) genes become regulated within 10 sessions (Church et al., 2017)

-Pain goes down 68% after a tapping session (Church & Brooks, 2011)

-Autoimmune symptoms down 33% or more (Brattberg, 2011; Hodge & Jurgens, 2014)

Heres a video I recorded for this for you to follow along and learn how to do 🙂

2. Reframing

What is our thought process behind this feeling?

Everything begins with a thought…so what are you thinking about there? Sometimes we let our minds go rampant with thoughts of worry, panic, and fear. What if that happens or that or the sky starts raining pigs?! If we allow ourselves to have anxious thoughts, we will induce a feeling of anxiety. How can we talk to ourselves to calm ourselves down? It’s important to reprogram the way we think because our emotions originate from that.

3. Visual Meditation

This might sound a little weird but….just flow with it. Listen to that intuition within you and whatever answer comes up first, is the answer. Close your eyes and take a deep breath…ask yourself,

“Where is this anxiety in my body?” It might be your chest or your throat or even your stomach.

Then ask yourself, “Does this anxiety have a color?” It might not but if it does acknowledge it.

“Does this anxiety in my body have a shape?” It might be a box or a square or a ball.

Imagine in your mind’s eye this anxiety traveling to your arm and into your hand. Once it’s in your hand, throw it into the ground and let mother nature take care of it.

4.Reprogram

Reprogramming is when we change the dialogue that that runs in our subconscious minds. By reprogramming I was able to beat suicidal depression and manifest more abundance into my life. Reprogramming requires us to get into a relaxed state (theta) first while listening to affirmations or a guided meditation. There are many useful ones on Youtube you can just search. Listening to these, while you are completely conscious, won’t have the same effect because it’s not your conscious mind that is completely in charge of the way you think and react. Neuroscience has proven that 95% of our behavior originates from our subconscious so if you want to shift your chronic emotional states, hack your hardrive!

5. Mindset Shift

What are you thinking about?!

We can make the decision to not fret and worry or to make the empowering decision that things are going to fall in place or work out. Everything is energy so if you continue to choose to anxious thoughts, you activate anxious feelings. Sometimes we don’t know why we are anxious and it might seem absurd at times because sometimes it shows up whether you want it to or not, that’s why it is so important to hack your subconscious mind by reprogramming it.

6. Move Your Body

Dance! Workout! Move! I’m anxious and you want me to dance?! Umm yeah that’s pretty much what I’m saying. Our emotions can get stuck within our body’s energy points and you want to unblock those channels. So if you move your body, you can literally move these emotions. Allow your body to do the work and intuitively move to the music you’re playing…don’t overthink it, just go with it. It might just be what your body needs.

7.Lavendar Capsules

I went to a naturopathic doctor since I am really into preventive care and we went over anxiety. She recommended these lavender pills from Integrative Therapeutics (no this is not sponsored, would be nice though) and I thought hmmm interesting, I had been applying lavender oil topically and experimenting with aromatherapy but it never did much for me. However, I had never ingested lavender oil capsules and holy crap! These lavender capsules were so effective for me and I could feel a huge difference…waayyy better than stupid Klonopin. You can actually get these on Amazon on the link below.

8. Ashwaganda

This is a super-powerful ancient medicinal herb that is said to help with managing stress, depression, and anxiety. There are so many health benefits to this that you may want to look into as well such as reducing inflammation, cortisol, and blood sugar levels. I don’t think I took this consistently enough to experience the benefits. Everyone’s body is different and I’m keeping this in mind so what might not work for me, may work for you and what works for me may not work for you. I really was up for anything after conventional medicine failed me. I definitely prefer lavender capsules over this any day.

A little background

I have suffered from anxiety my entire life! I come from a family who suffers from anxiety and grew up in a high anxiety-inducing environment so nurture vs. nature both at play here. Several years ago I hit one of deepest rock bottoms, my anxiety was at its highest, and I certainly wasn’t in a healthy space in life. At the time I was in a toxic relationship (click here for my last post on toxic, abusive relationships) and for the first time got on meds.

The Psychiatrist

My ex partner at the time did a wonderful job at convincing me that I should see a therapist because I was bipolar according to him. (Right…because would make sense when you’re happy one minute then sad the next when you have an abusive partner) I was always against taking meds but I felt like I didn’t know what else to do. So within a few minutes with the psychiatrist, asked me several questions and before you know it I left with a prescription for Klonopin.

Klonopin

This is the first and last psychiatric drug I ever took, here is why. When I first started consuming this drug I completely neglected going over the potential side effects. I could barely feel a difference until a week or two in if I remember correctly. One day I was in my room and I randomly started to feel so dizzy, and within a minute I felt like I could faint. I began to feel really sick and nauseous. I had never felt this kind of sick before and immediately went over to urgent care. I really don’t know how it didn’t cross my mind that it had been the drugs I was taking. That was it for me…I knew I had to find something else that worked because psychiatric drugs just weren’t the solution I felt was right hence educating myself on alternative tools.
