Natural Ways to Help With Insomnia

MY INSOMNIAC JOURNEY

I’ve had trouble sleeping since I was a little girl, my mind filled with ideas, thoughts…that I couldn’t quiet. It was sooo hard to get up in the morning & focus during the day…I felt like a night owl. The weirdest part was that growing up I wasn’t allowed to have any type of electronics in my room by 9pm …no phone, no laptop, and never had a TV in my room. It took me a long time to really figure out what works NATURALLY! (I hate taking any sort of medication & prefer a holistic approach) So heres what I do sometimes…

1.Take Melatonin

Melatonin is a natural hormone your body produces which can be found everywhere. I like to go to my Whole Foods store or you can order some online at Thrive Market where I usually find it cheaper.

2.Take Valerian Root

It’s an herb most commonly used for sleeping disorders & ill take it when I cant find my melatonin…it depends on what brand you get but sometimes it’s not as strong & just really helps you to relax. Everyone’s body reacts differently so this may work for you.

3. Meditation

People have the misconception that you have to get your mind completely blank & get so caught up in that. When I first started meditating, it was not a peaceful experience. If anything it caused me more frustration than peace. However, just stick with it because once you get the hang of it, you will find that it is one of the most rewarding practices you can add to your lifestyle. Just focus on breathing & don’t dwell on a particular thought…watch it come & let it go, literally.

4. Yoga

Another form of meditation but its great when my body and muscles are feeling extra tight. I absolutely love Yoga with Adrienne on Youtube.

5.WORKOUT

This is the best thing other than taking melatonin that helps put me to sleep and overcome insomnia.

6. Lavender Essential Oil

I use this on my chest or face & it smells sooo good

7. STOP THE COFFEE

If you can’t live without it, at least don’t drink any after 5pm.. I quit coffee & replaced with extremely nutritional veggie smoothies

8. Earplugs

I live in a very quiet neighborhood thankfully but even with that I still wear earplugs because it’s just a whole other level of silence

9. Sleeping Mask

A whole other level of darkness lol For some reason I find this so soothing.

10. White Noise Machine

Personally, this isn’t my thing however I know a friend who knocks out as soon as they turn this thing on & it’s amazing!

11. Foot Detox Pads

When I originally bought these, I did for the sole purpose of detoxing!!! I wasn’t expecting to sleep like a baby and wake up in the morning feeling super super energized 🙂 I was so so happy and I continue to sleep like a baby when I wear these bad boys. The only foot detox pads I got were from Global Healing Center and I’ve recommended it to friends that love them too!
